Suggestion for improved composition:
Introduction - first version:
At school we had a lesson in art today and what we did there for 90 minutes was ridiculous.
We learned how to do pottery. I don’t think that I will need pottery for my later life so my opinion is that we learn many useless things at school.
Improved version:
In our last art lesson at school we learned how to do pottery.
While I was messing around with the wet clay, fingers all sticky, trying to form … I could not help but wonder what I was doing there.
Learning this skill seemed useless to me and like a waste of time and doesn’t that apply for many of the things we learn at school?
Suggestion first paragraph:
TOPIC SENTENCE:
First of all, taking a closer look at any profession, one can see clearly that the vast majority of all the facts learnt at school becomes irrelevant once you enter the world of work.
ILLUSTRATING EXAMPLE:
A baker won’t need the ability of analyzing poems nor will an economist need to remember much Latin or the history of the Roman Empire.
ROUNDING-OFF-SENTENCE:
Consequently all these subjects have been studied in vain.
